Hello and Welcome to Day Six of Warcraft Radio’s Coverage of the Race to World First: Sanctum of Domination! My name is MrMiles from It’s Always Sunny in Stormwind, and I’m here to talk about the exciting highlights of Day Six of the Race to World First – Sanctum of Domination!
What an exciting and gut-wrenching day it has been! This has been one of the closest and most intense races in the history of the Race to World First, where the top four guilds are racing to see who will take down Sylvanas first. We entered this race believing that Sylvanas would be defeated at 50%, as that is when the fight ends on Heroic. Echo hit that 50% threshold and thought they had it, only to realize that 50% wasn’t quite good enough for the Mythic race.
Echo is still in the lead as of the time of this recording with a total of 105 pulls on Sylvanas Windrunner and a best attempt of 49.57%. Despite initial assumptions that the race would end at 50%, we now believe the fight will end at 45% based on a datamine published by Wowhead on July 8th that almost went unnoticed, until it was publicized by Radier.IO earlier this evening. Wowhead on July 8th data mined a hotfix that appeared to show an unmarked, unidentifiable ability on Sylvanas that kicked in at 45% on Mythic difficulty only. As of this evening, it is assumed this must be the HP threshold required to finish Sylvanas on Mythic, but it could also be an indicator of just about anything else.
Limit is slightly behind Echo with a best attempt at 60.11%. Can Echo dish out an extra 5% or will this have to wait until reset? The only thing we can do is to wait and see, but for now, let’s take a look at the leaderboard to see where we stand on July 18th at 8pm EDT, or July 19th at 2am CEST.
EYE OF THE JAILER
REMNANT OF NER'ZHUL
Today, we’ve been hyper-focused on which guild will achieve World First with Echo and Limit neck-and-neck. However, Sylvanas continues to prove a much more difficult boss. According to a hotfix released on July 16th, the total damage players must deliver to Sylvanas was reduced by 5% in Normal and Heroic. However, it is unclear whether this means Mythic Sylvanas should die at 45%, or whether the overall HP of Sylvanas was reduced by 2.5% on Normal and Heroic, meaning the total damage to be done was reduced by 5% with a 50% kill threshold. Literally moments after Echo discovered that 50% was not the threshold to beat, Complexity Limit stopped their Sylvanas attempts and spent the next few hours working on Heroic Splits, targeting leather and mail pieces. As of the time of this recording, they just completed their additional splits and are back at the fight against Sylvanas. Expectations are that Echo will start tomorrow off with a single Mail split targeting their 1 Hunter, RogerBrown, and 1 Enhancement Shaman, Mnis, but will Limit manage to snag the win before Echo awakes?
In yesterday’s video, we described the mechanics of the first two phases in the Sylvanas fight, including the presence of new Domination Arrows and Domination Chains in Phase 1 and the addition of a second bridge in Phase 2 of Mythic. Today we got a good look at Phase 3 of the fight. Like Heroic and Normal, Phase 3 takes place in the Arbiter’s chamber above Oribos, with 4 platforms appearing around the central platform. The raid spawns in above one of the platforms, and every couple of minutes Sylvanas destroys the platform that the raid is on, forcing the raid to move to another platform and repeat certain mechanics. Unlike Heroic and Normal, Mythic Sylvanas introduces new mechanics. The Shadow Dagger ability, which in Heroic and Normal has Sylvanas shooting out a set of daggers from her position, instead has daggers shooting out of multiple players. Raiders are forced to position themselves so that a series of lines do not overlap other players on the platform. Additionally, the Wailing Arrow mechanic, which targets a single player and does significant damage to other raiders that are close by, does so much damage that players on Mythic normally take the ability to another platform to cause it to do as little damage as possible to the rest of the raid.
Over 85,000 viewers were on-hand to watch Echo push Sylvanas below 50%, and the hype was through the roof. The collective anticipation and subsequent disappointment when the encounter did not end was a sight to behold, and it is expected that Echo will make additional attempts tomorrow after securing any remaining gear. Still, the expected 4.5% still needed to kill Sylvanas amounts to an additional 7 million hitpoints, or 1800 dps needed from every dps player in the raid. Where the guild could possibly find this extra damage is the biggest question facing the Race to World First at this time.
Let’s catch up on the rest of the raid progress after yesterday’s recap was posted. Big Dumb Golden Guardians and Method have taken down Kel’Thuzad in short order, and are now our two other competitors on Sylvanas! BDGG swooped in late last night, claiming the World 3rd title on Kel’Thuzad after 53 pulls. Method caught up this morning, claiming World 4th after just 42 pulls. As of now, these are the only four guilds to have defeated Kel’Thuzad, while Pieces is currently the only other guild facing him.
BDGG moved on to confront Sylvanas and thus far, their best attempt is 67.9% after 29 pulls. However, after today’s revelation that the Sylvanas fight does not end at 50%, they have decided to push Mythic+ for additional gear before continuing the fight. Method has ended for the night, but their current best pull is 67.4% after 71 pulls. That is only a .5% difference between our number 3 and number 4 guilds!
Our current 5th place guild, Pieces, defeated Fatescribe Roh-Kalo, putting them up to 8/10! They spent most of their day doing a massive number of heroic splits to get ready for further progression. Meanwhile Aversion, the 6th guild in the world to get past Guardians of the First One, is now awaiting their fate at Fatescribe along with guilds FatSharkYes and Impact.
