RWF 9.1 – Day 7 Recap

We are on day seven of the RWF 9.1!

It’s the end of the first week of the RWF, and I know we keep saying it, but this race is so intensely close. At the time of the recording, Echo was in the lead, but we held off on publishing juuuust in case Complexity Limit managed to snag the win tonight. While it hasn’t occurred as of now, they are in the lead with a total of 45.44%

Hello and Welcome to Day Seven of Warcraft Radio’s Coverage of the Race to World First: Sanctum of Domination! My name is MrMiles from  It’s Always Sunny in Stormwind, and I’m here to talk about the exciting highlights of Day Seven of the Race to World First – Sanctum of Domination!

Day 7 marks a shift for many in what has proven to be one of the tightest races in the history of the event. We are on the eve of the North America reset and at this time have yet to crown a champion!

Let’s take a look at the leaderboard to see where we stand on July 19th at 8pm EDT, or July 20th at 2am CEST

Echo and Method started their days with additional Heroic splits to bolster their power before rejoining the fight against Sylvanas. Echo had only mail splits remaining to execute on to push the power of their lone Hunter, Rogerbrown and their Enhancement Shaman, Mnis. The splits resulted in a jump of roughly 3 points in the average item levels of both players. Paired with other efforts by the team, the overall raid item level increased by half a point on average!

Now having exhausted their last armor type for splits, Echo switched strategies, looking to use a duo of a Blood DK and a Subtlety Rogue to hold one of the Colossus adds. The remaining members of the raid then pushed extra damage into Sylvannas into phase 2 and reduced the burden in phase 3. During progression with this strategy, the dev team hotfixed the adds to enrage if not defeated within 45 seconds, negating this strategy. With this change, it was back to the drawing board for Echo. The team was forced to swap out a boomkin in favour of an additional warrior, and shedding their rogue, in a bid to gain more single target damage at the cost of AoE and cleave. The team consistently reached phase 3 and repeatedly brought the Banshee Queen to below 50% but were unable to secure the kill. On a nearly perfect pull, with tens of thousands of viewers in a very hype chat, Echo ended their day of raiding with 155 pulls and a best attempt of 46.35% – just 1.35% short of the presumed required HP of 45%.

Also representing the European hope was Method, who continued to progress in phase 2. While they have consistently reached phase 2, they found themselves unable to get into phase 3. Though the pull count seems relatively low at 122, the entire encounter can last as long as 14 to 15 minutes and even attempts ending half way through the encounter last longer than the entirety of the earlier encounters. Method ended their day bringing the former ranger general to as low as 83.45% health remaining.

The European teams now have tomorrow morning to claim the kill before the North American reset. This flips the script from where we were yesterday, as the onus now lies with the likes of Echo, Method and Pieces to secure a win or risk losing out to a resurgent NA wave as the gear from reclears, split runs and other sources may likely carry them through this difficult fight. BDGG is only 1% behind Method’s best attempt with 114 pulls and Pieces sits with only 62 attempts and a best of 85.35% health remaining.

Limit continued to push through on the final encounter of this tier but not before gathering strength from both mail and leather splits. This boosted the output of their 5 balance druids, which have become the most stacked class in this last encounter; as well as their hunter and shaman. Limit continues raiding at the time of this recording having made over 175 attempts with a best attempt of 47.79%.

The reset will not necessarily be smooth sailing for the North American guilds. Earlier today Blizzard posted hotfixes for the raid. Of particular interest is a hotfix to Kel’Thuzad that will cause the Soul Shards spawned to no longer despawn if the target dies prematurely. This means that the strategy involving the now infamous Weave of Warped Fates trinket is now broken. Each guild must now discover a new path to victory against the Lich when reclearing. Limit had worked on progression for several pulls before adopting the strategy first used by Echo.
